measuring electricity

Types of electrical measuring instruments

Early electrical detectors

pocket voltage detector
no physical connection required

high voltage detector
don't be surprised when a spark jumps to meet you

Clamp on ammeter
measures magnetic field of current flow
don't have to OPEN the circuit and insert meter

347 AC biovoltmeter

Proper use of the typical Digital Multimeter

Connecting a digital multimeter to measure current IN SERIES

Connecting a digital multimeter to measure voltage IN PARALLEL

It is most important that the circuit is de-energized while measuring resistance or continuity
Even better try to isolate the component from the rest of the circuit or you will probably end up measuring
other components in the circuit.

The 289 True-rms Industrial Logging Multimeter with TrendCapture includes all the advanced digital multimeter features you'd expect from a Fluke tool plus:

  • Large 50,000 count, 1/4 VGA dot matrix display
  • Data logging function with expanded memory
  • TrendCapture allows you to graphically review logged readings right on the meter, without needing a PC. Store, up to 15,000 readings over time
  • Two terminal 50 O range with 1 mO resolution, 10 mA
  • Low Pass filter for accurate voltage and frequency measurements on adjustable speed motor drives
  • LoZ Volts. Low impedance voltage function for eliminating ghost voltages
  • Advanced Min/Max/Average - all the data on one screen, as well and the start and elapsed time
  • "i" button - unsure of a feature or a function, the "i" button provides on-board function help
