Transistors
were
a product of solid state physics research. Discovered at Bell Labs by Dr. Shockley the patent was purchased by SONY in
Japan in 1953. The first Japanese transistor
radio was made a year later in 1954!
Need I say more......
Today transistors are everywhere
from your wrist watch to your computer, car, and calculator.
The transistor's journey to space hastened miniaturization, circuit integration,
and finally
the computer chip.
The transistors compact,
rugged nature, and low power consumption, made it an instant hit.
They replaced their predecessor the TRIODE within a decade.
The main uses of
transistors are: switching - on/off amplification - increasing signal strength
from these 2 functions many devices are created. >>>>>>>>>>>>
